METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once the gum is frozen, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum. Next we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use high pressure because that could damage the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete. These types of surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
